Just moments ago, the 2021 Florida legislative session came to a close. This has been the most challenging session in the history of our union with political attacks coming left and right aimed at dismantling our union, threatening our pensions, and denying us of our collective voice on the job to negotiate for better workplace conditions, salary, and benefits.
I'm pleased to officially announce that, thanks to the hard work and dedication of AFSCME members across the state, we have defeated all of these anti-worker bills this session. I want to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done to fight for our rights as union members.
However, we know these attacks on our workplace rights will almost certainly return once again next year. We have our work cut out for us. Over the course of the next several months, we must build our Local membership to prevent losing the Union. It won't be easy but I have no doubt that by working together, we can make this happen.
Council 79 is hiring an organizer for our Local to help us strategize to build membership so we can defeat these attacks again. Once again thanks for your help and effort during this period.
